General Project Description:
State Street (NYS Route 38) serves as a critical link between downtown Auburn and the northern section of the city, serving dozens of businesses and local residences as well as the rural communities immediately north of the City. The bridge provides access for commerce, employment and emergency services for more than 6,400 vehicles per day. Many pedestrians and bicyclists also rely on this bridge. Critical water, electric, gas, telephone and cable lines also cross the river on this bridge.
The project begins at the intersection of State Street and Arterial West (NYS 5 & US 20) and ends approximately 150 feet north of bridge between West Garden Street at Wall Street. The project limits include 200 feet of road rehabilitation on West Garden Street and the construction of a pocket park in the northeast quadrant of the bridge.
The project proposes to replace the existing 73-foot long bridge with a new 80-foot long bridge to provide an additional 75+ years of service life to the City of Auburn. New reinforced concrete abutments will be constructed to support the new bridge. The driveways, sidewalks and approach roadways will be reconstructed to meet the new superstructure. Anticipated completion date is the end of 2020.
Required Road Closures:
Beginning June 4, 2020 and lasting through the life of the project the State Street Bridge and a portion of State Street (NYS Route 38) on the north side of the bridge extending past West Garden Street will be closed. This will require West Garden Street to also be closed for the duration of the project.
