CITY OF AUBURN ISSUES HIGH WATER LEVEL WATCH FOR
OWASCO RIVER AND OWASCO LAKE
____________________________________

RESIDENTS OF OWASCO RIVER & OWASCO LAKE SHOULD PREPARE FOR HIGHER THAN AVERAGE WATER LEVELS

Owasco Lake and Owasco River water levels are anticipated to be at higher than average levels over the next several days.  As the attached briefing from NOAA Binghamton Weather Service Office indicates Cayuga County and the Central New York region have been issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook with several inches of rain possible through Sunday, June 28, 2015.

Residents that reside on the shores of the Owasco River and Owasco Lake are encouraged to prepare for above average water flows in the Owasco River and water levels on Owasco Lake are anticipated to increase to above average levels.

Statement from Anthony DeCaro, Chief Water Plant Operator for the City of Auburn, New York: “This additional rainfall follows what has been an extremely wet year for the region.  The rain anticipated will be entering a watershed that is already saturated and downstream of Owasco Lake the Seneca Canal is experiencing already flooded conditions.  This year’s rainfall has caused high water levels throughout the region. We encourage shore dwelling residents of Owasco Lake and the Owasco River to be prepared for higher than average water levels.”
