The Owasco River Greenway Trail Project will complete the planning, design and engineering of a six-mile multi-modal trail system along the Owasco River extending  from Emerson Park at Owasco Lake to Wadsworth “Park” on the City of Auburn’s west side. The Plan will augment the existing transportation system, meet the demand for new housing options, and provide a greenway corridor to reduce the City’s carbon footprint. The proposed Plan is a goal of the City of Auburn Comprehensive Plan and is intended to fulfill the policies of the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) and Central New York Regional Planning and Development Board (CNYRPDB) regarding bicycle and pedestrian concerns. The Plan will further the City’s efforts to link transportation, housing, and environmental policies to improve regional economic development.

Through a community participation process, the project will involve the design development and analysis of bicycle and pedestrian transportation infrastructure along the Owasco River. This new multi-modal trail system will connect neighborhoods throughout the City and provide the only direct non-motorized connection between downtown Auburn and Owasco Lake.

The proposed planning project will be completed in two Phases. Phase I, to be completed during 2012, calls for the completion of a Master Plan that will address the environmental, physical, historical and economic elements of the six-mile multi-modal trail as well as design alternatives and specifications for the trail and trail nodes. Based on the outcomes of Phase I, final design and engineered construction drawings will be developed for either the entire trail system or specific trail nodes.
