Fire Department Training Office

Metal 3 story building used for fire training.

The Auburn Fire Department’s Training Office has the duty to prepare the Firefighters with the skill, knowledge, and proficiency to conduct their day-to-day operations. From Emergency Medical calls Structure fire operations, as well as Technical Rescues. Auburn Firefighters train daily to perfect these skills.

The members of the Auburn Fire Department are provided training at a company level as well as Department level.  Most training is conducted in-house at the Fire Station or at the Cayuga County Training Facility. Training is not limited to these locations. There is also a need for the Auburn Fire Department to respond outside of the city for Mutual Aid calls; because of this the Department also conducts training with other county departments.

Our Training is ever-evolving due to advancements in technology. Whenever the Department receives a new piece of equipment each member is trained before it is put into service. Advancements in the medical field also change our methods of treatment in Emergency Care.

The Training Office coordinates with each shift and puts out training that coincides with the seasons. This method better prepares the members for the types of emergencies they will respond to.

The Auburn Fire Department identifies the importance of training the community as well. Fire Prevention is taught at the local Schools as well as area businesses. This is paramount in keeping the community members safe. An entire month is set aside for this reason. This training is also conducted throughout the year.

In 2022 the Auburn Fire Department recorded over 21,720 hours of training. This includes the 101 minimum standard hours for in-service training. Members also attended various training opportunities and seminars at the New York State Academy of Fire Science in Montour Falls NY. The Auburn Fire Department continues to exceed the minimum hours of training every year.
