City Safety Office

The City Employee Safety Office provides various training opportunities and programs to provide a safe working environment and ensure compliance with OSHA and State Public Employee Safety and Health (PESH) standards.

The Office provides all OSHA and PESH required safety training, which includes Workplace Violence, Right to Know/Haz Com, Bloodborne Pathogen and Lockout/Tagout and NIMS training, to name a few.

The Safety Office works with the City’s Safety Committee, which is comprised of volunteer members of all city departments and insurance carrier, allowing the concerns of all city employees to be addressed. The Office’s activities not only help protect the well-being of the city’s employees, but also reduce the city’s insurance premiums and provide more accurate record keeping.

The Safety Committee meets four times a year, along with the Accident Review sub-committee, to discuss accidents and how to avoid re-occurrence of preventable incidents.

The #1 goal and priority for the Safety Office is making sure the work environment is safe for all City employees, and we pride ourselves on being proactive to meet the needs of all departments.

Fire Prevention coordination also falls under the Safety Office. Throughout the entire year, visitors of all ages and a variety of tours come through the Auburn Fire Stations to learn about fire safety.

There are great informational handouts available for our visitors when they stop by. They also get to receive the “personal” touch and sometimes a real story of what fire can do.

Information and demonstrations are also brought out to the schools, as well as various other locations, especially during Fire Prevention Week (and Month) in October each year. In 2012 Auburn Fire Department personnel visited over 2852 children in schools alone. Several hundred children and adults stopped by the Fire Stations for tours.

The City Safety Office multi-tasks throughout the year taking on many safety oriented projects and continues to move forward working with the employees and the community.
