Auburn, NY – Mayor Quill, City Councilors and the City Manager will be joined by NYS Senator Pam Helming to cut the ribbon for the completed State Street Bridge Replacement project at a ceremony to be held at the corner of State Street and W. Garden Street on Thursday, June 10, 2021 at 4:00 p.m..

State Street (NYS Route 38) serves as a critical link between downtown Auburn and the northern section of the city, serving dozens of businesses and local residences as well as the rural communities immediately north of the City. The bridge is located immediately adjacent to the Auburn Correctional Facility and provides access for commerce, employment and emergency services for more than 6,400 vehicles per day. Many pedestrians and bicyclists also rely on this bridge. Critical water, electric, gas, telephone and cable lines also cross the Owasco River on this bridge.

The project began at the intersection of State Street and Arterial West  (NYS 5 & US 20) and ended approximately 150 feet north of bridge just north of West Garden Street. The project also included 200 feet of road rehabilitation on W. Garden Street and the construction of a new pocket park in the northeast quadrant of the bridge overlooking the Owasco River.

The project completely replaced the existing 73-foot long bridge with a new 80-foot long bridge to provide an additional 75+ years of service life to the City of Auburn. New reinforced concrete abutments were constructed to support the new bridge. The driveways, sidewalks and approach roadways were reconstructed to meet the new superstructure.

This $6 million project was funded with a $4.75 million New York State BRIDGE NY grant with the remainder of the project budget being funded by the City of Auburn.  The bridge was designed by C&S Engineers and the general contractor was Slate Hill Constructors.
