Mayor Quill Proclaims May 15 - 21, 2022 as National EMS Week

WHEREAS, emergency medical services is a vital public service and the members of emergency medical services teams are ready to provide lifesaving care to those in need 24 hours a day, seven days a week; and

WHEREAS, access to quality emergency care dramatically improves the survival and recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness or injury; and

WHEREAS, emergency medical services has grown to fill a gap by providing important, out of hospital care, including preventative medicine, follow-up care, and access to telemedicine; and

WHEREAS, the emergency medical services system consists of first responders, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, emergency medical dispatchers, firefighters, police officers, educators, administrators, pre-hospital nurses, emergency nurses, emergency physicians, trained members of the public, and other out of hospital medical care providers; and

WHEREAS, the members of emergency medical services teams engage in thousands of hours of specialized training and continuing education to enhance their lifesaving skills; and

WHEREAS, the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Week theme for 2022 is Rising to the Challenge and it is an appropriate theme to recognize the value and the accomplishments of the integration of the new Auburn City Ambulance into our City of Auburn organization over the past 12 months; andNational EMS Week in Auburn, NY is May 15 - 21, 2022

WHEREAS, the establishment of the new Auburn City Ambulance department was an initiative that took significant planning and  implementation by several individuals within our City of Auburn staff and upon the transition to the new Auburn City Ambulance in November of 2022 the City has been diligently served by our City Manager, City Comptroller, Fire Chief, ACA Director of Operations, the 25 full and part time City EMS team members and others providing administrative support, and these cumulative efforts that have successfully delivered outstanding ambulance operations to the citizens of our City and the greater Auburn area.

NOW THEREFORE, I, Michael D. Quill Mayor of the City of Auburn along with members of the City Council and the citizens of Auburn, in recognition of the service of our new Auburn City Ambulance department do hereby proclaim the week of May 15-21, 2022, as

EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES WEEK

in the City of Auburn and we recognize with our sincerest gratitude all within our organization for Rising to the Challenge to ensure that effective and efficient emergency medical service response is a component of our City’s overall public safety response efforts to our community, and furthermore, we thank the men and women who have joined our organization and serve our community daily on the front line of service as Paramedics and Emergency Service Technicians in our new Auburn City Ambulance Department.
