Cemeteries

The City of Auburn maintains two cemeteries: North Street Cemetery and Soule Cemetery.

North Street Cemetery is located at 162-178 North Street in Auburn and no longer accepts burials. The first burial is North Street Cemetery is of Gideon Tyler in 1796. The donor of the original plot was Lewis Olmsted.
The southwesterly corner of the cemetery, in the days of the early pioneers, was set apart as consecrated ground and used by the Catholic brethren until the State Street Cemetery was opened. The spirit of universal brotherhood makes the spot especially interesting.

Soule Cemetery is located 3412 Franklin Street Road. The land for Soule Cemetery was donated to the City of Auburn by Lyman Soule, Esq. In 1882. This cemetery includes the old cemetery known as Phelps Burying Ground. See the map of Soule Cemetery below:
