APD receives NYS Accreditation

#AuburnNY On December 7, 2024 the Auburn, N.Y. Police Department was presented with a Certificate of Accreditation by the NYS Law Enforcement Agency Accreditation Council.

This accomplishment by the Auburn Police Department was a total team effort that began in 2018 under former Police Chief Shawn Butler. A team was compiled to revisit all of APD's policies and procedures to ensure the department was compliant with the best practices and New York State Accreditation standards. Throughout the process the accreditation manager, Lawrence Church, was there to make sure the department had workgroup discussions and made all the necessary changes to be compliant. Through all the personnel changes over the years at the Auburn Police Department, the department continued to persevere through the process under the leadership of Chief James Slayton and following years of dedicated effort achieved this accreditation accomplishment.

“As Chief of Police of this department, I am proud of the men and women who serve our community and the hard work they have done to help us accomplish this,” stated Police Chief James Slayton.

“This has been a process years in the making and I thank Police Chief James Slayton and all of the members of the department for the work they did on this accreditation process. The process brought transparency and greater awareness of the work that APD does on a daily basis and our City can be confident that we have a department to be proud of,” stated Mayor Michael D. Quill.
