New Casey Park Skatepark Installation Reaches Major Milestone - Ribbon Cutting Planned for Spring 2024

The construction of a new Skatepark at Casey Park in Auburn reached a major milestone this week as the poured in place concrete skatepark was completed on November 29, 2023. 

“This is exciting as we have reached a pinnacle point in this major investment in the youth of our community and we look forward to 100% completion in the Spring of 2024.  On behalf of our City we thank the skatepark advisory committee and all that participated in this process.  Special thanks to the local and national foundations and our State and Federal representatives that joined the City of Auburn to obtain the funding for the project,” stated Mayor Michael D. Quill 

The Skatepark is now open for public use.  Located within Auburn’s Casey Park at 150 N. Division Street, the park is free and operating hours are from dawn to dusk. Continued improvements to complete the overall project are planned for the spring of 2024. Additional improvements include renovation of the existing pavilion as well as installing a connecting pathway from the walkway to the skatepark.  A Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for Casey Park Skatepark will be held late spring 2024 after the remaining improvements are done and the overall project is completed.

A project led by the City of Auburn’s Office of Planning and Economic Development the $1 million investment in the skatepark came from a partnership between City, State, and Federal grant programs along with significant contributions from local and national foundations.  The complete list of project funders is as follows:

  • $250,000 City of Auburn Community Development Block Grant Program
  • $250,000 NYS Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Environmental Protection Fund (EPF)
  • $251,344.50 from the City of Auburn’s American Rescue Plan Act Fund
  • $150,000 from The Emerson Foundation
  • $40,000 from The Skatepark Project
  • $25,000 SW Metcalf Foundation
  • $10,000 DE French Foundation

The contractor on the project was Grindline Skateparks Inc. and they specialize in the planning, design and construction of cast in place concrete skateparks.  Their construction methods incorporate highly skilled shot-crete, flat work, masonry, and carpentry techniques specific to building skatepark architecture. Grindline skateparks are located throughout the United States.
