STORM RESPONSE

January 10, 2024 – 7am

From the Office of Mayor Jimmy Giannettino – City of Auburn, NY

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The City of Auburn was significantly impacted by the windstorm that peaked during the evening hours of Tuesday January 9, 2024. While the winds have subsided, there is still extensive cleanup and restoration that needs to take place. The following list highlights the actions the public should take related to various hazards while work to clean up from the storm.

  • Do not move or approach downed wires – assume all downed wires are energized.
  • Several roadway intersections have malfunctioning traffic signals – treat all intersections with malfunctioning traffic signals as an all-way stop. Come to a complete stop and proceed through when safe.
  • Travel with care and keep an eye out for downed wires and trees.
  • Respect barricaded areas and do not proceed past barricades on foot or by vehicle.
  • If you have a tree on YOUR property that needs to be evaluated call 315-255-4737. Calls will be prioritized and the actual removal of the tree may take some time.
  • Some areas may not have power restored until late today at the earliest. Follow safe practices if utilizing generator power. Do not run generators inside structures, including garages. Use caution with any alternate heating devices.  Electrical Outages have been experienced throughout the entire upstate New York area and crews are working on restorations in the Auburn and Cayuga County area, for information and to report outages contact NYSEG at https://www.nyseg.com/outages
  • Please follow applicable parking regulations to enable our crews to efficiently clean up and access damage.
