Information for Potential Applicants

Auburn City Ambulance is the primary ambulance service for 911 calls and hospital transfers in the City of Auburn, New York.  We also participate in local and regional mutual aid plans, and respond to emergency calls in surrounding towns and villages when our assistance is requested.  Auburn City Ambulance responds to approximately 7000 calls annually.

The City of Auburn offers Continuous Recruitment Civil Service Exams for EMT and Paramedic candidates. This is a Training and Experience based assessment rather than a traditional multiple choice test.  Candidates for employment are asked to submit an employment application and copies of their EMS credentials.  This documentation is then assessed and candidates are assigned a score and placed on the City of Auburn EMT or Paramedic Civil Service List.

How to Apply

Submit the following documents to Civil Service Clerk Jeffrey Whiting by email to jwhiting@auburnny.gov or by mail to Civil Service Office, Memorial City Hall, 24 South St. Room 208, Auburn, NY 13021.

• City of Auburn Civil Service Application     When completing the application, the Exam Number is CR40-223 for Paramedics and CR40-222 for EMTs or AEMTs.
• Copy of valid New York State EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic certification.
• Copy of valid New York State driver's license
• Copy of valid CPR certification   
• Copy of high school diploma, GED, and/or college transcript.
• Written summary of relevant EMS training and work experience.         
• Check or money order for $15.00 application fee made payable to the CITY TREASURER and mailed to Memorial City Hall, 24 South Street, Room 208, Auburn, NY 13021. Write the Exam Number on the Check or Money Order - DO NOT SEND CASH.  Application fee may be waived in some circumstances, details can be found in the Examination Announcements linked below:
