John St & E. Genesee Street Project fall 2022

Auburn, New York - September 27, 2022

An $850,000 road construction project to repave a portion of E. Genesee Street and all of John Street in downtown Auburn will begin October 4, 2022 and last through Thanksgiving.  The project is being funded with NYS Touring Route funding that the City of Auburn has received via the 2022 and 2023 New York State budget.  Included in the project will be the installation of storm sewers, adjustments and repairs of manholes and catch basins, sidewalk and curb repair and/or installations, and the milling and paving of both streets.

The impacted project area includes all of John Street and the section of E. Genesee Street between the Loop Road and Fulton Street.     For this project John Street will be closed to through vehicular traffic beginning October 4, 2022 and lasting through the end of the month of October.  Local residents and businesses will have access to John Street coordinated by the project contractor.  E. Genesee Street will remain open throughout the project, however, partial closure with lane reductions will be implemented on the street as needed throughout the course of the project.

“This investment in the east side of our downtown is long overdue.  We will be improving or installing the infrastructure underneath the streets, as well as, giving each street a much needed repaving.  It will be a challenging short term inconvenience, however, in the end we will have an improved East Hill and John Street area for years to come,” stated Mayor Michael D. Quill.

The project’s general contractor is Paul F. Vitale Inc. of Auburn, New York.  The City of Auburn’s contact for the project is City Engineer William Lupien who can be reached by phone at 315-255-4132 or email at wlupien@auburnny.gov
