Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) Access Officer:

The City Clerk is designated as the Record Access Officer.

How to make a FOIL request:

You may request access to public records:

  • In person at the City Clerk's office first floor of Memorial City Hall, 24 South Street, Auburn, NY 13021 in person from 8 a.m. through 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  • Via e-mail, please submit e-mail requests to Chuck Mason, City Clerk. Please note:  please include your mailing address in your e-mail request in case the records requested must be direct mailed to you. When possible the City of Auburn will e-mail the requested information to you.
  • You may also download and print the Freedom of Information Request Form and deliver or mail it to:

Response to your request:

The City Clerk's Office works closely with the City's Corporation Counsel and all City boards, commissions, and departments to ensure that citizens are provided access to all public records and that private information is appropriately protected. The City will provide an initial response to your request within five business days of the receipt of your request. If the City needs more time than the initial five days it will provide you an estimate of the time needed in the initial response to you. If you have submitted a request to the City of Auburn and have not received a response please contact the City Clerk, Chuck Mason by email or by phone (315) 255-4100.

Fees:

If photocopies are required to provide you with the information you are looking to obtain, the fee for copies is 25 cents per page. Fees may be higher for copies of large size documents such as maps. The City will contact you prior to fulfilling your response to let you know of any fees for copies. When possible the City of Auburn will e-mail the requested information to you.

You have the right to appeal any request that has been denied by the City.
